16 of the most heartwarming Valentine’s Day traditions around the world


On Valentine’s Day in South Africa, young women will pin the name of their crush to their sleeve for all to see — it’s an homage to the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia. In Estonia, friendship rather than romantic love is traditionally celebrated on February 14. And in the Philippines, the day is a popular occasion for mass weddings where hundreds, sometimes even thousands, tie the knot in unison in huge, government-sponsored events.
